Full Time - Cafe + Lounge: Prep Cook
Role Summary: The Food Preparations Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and elements of the daytime Cafe menu and nighttime Lounge menu. The Prep Cook will wash, cut and prepare food to assist our kitchen workers. The Prep Cook will ensure ingredients are stored and rotated effectively to optimize freshness and ensure desired stock levels at all times. You will collaborate with the kitchen teams to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. To be successful in this role, you will ensure the quality and stability of products through complying with food handling guidelines and following recipes and directions outlined by the Head Chef, Matt.

Responsibilities:
Quality Control
- Working effectively with the kitchen team and complying with company procedures and food handling/ safety policies.
- Keeping station sanitary and organized throughout the shift.
- Operating in an efficient and cleanly manner.
- Preparing ingredients following recipes and guidelines set.
- Ensuring that ingredients are tagged date-labelled, covered, stored, and rotated effectively.
Customer Service
- Be quick on your feet, with a polite and friendly attitude.
- Take pride in being an integral part of the Jack & Stella experience.
Inventory Management
- Overseeing food levels and restocking items on time, as well as informing when stock levels are low.
- Establishing stock levels at the end of shift and capturing information on standardized stock sheets.
- Unpacking and stocking/ rotating new inventory when it is received.
Opening/Closing
- Turn on ALL kitchen appliances + espresso machine.
- Prepare + bake off baked goods in the morning; have them ready for open at 9AM.
- Maintain a clean and tidy workspace, especially during close/open.
- Removing trash and clearing storage bins.
Requirements:
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Food Handling certification required.
- Ability to follow recipes.
- 1-2 years of kitchen production experience is considered an asset.
- Understanding of food allergies and food borne illnesses.
- Must be able to adhere to all Jack & Stella operating policies and programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others and work as a team.
- Responsible, clean, patient and trustworthy.
- Stand or walk for extended periods of time and lift or move objects up to 25lbs.
Schedule:
Days: 5-6 days per week
Hours: Up to 44 hours
Shifts: 8:00AM- 4:00PM**
Compensation:
$18/hour + a percentage of tips based on overall daily sales from each shift.
(Average additional tip: $1-$5 per hour.)
Contract:
May/ June start- September 1 end.
Depending on your position, your start day will range from May 16th to no later than June 24th.
We ask that all Jack & Stella crew do their best to commit to staying for Labour Day weekend.
Jack & Stella also stays open until the Cranberry Festival in Bala (weekend after Thanksgiving) with modified hours. In your application, please note if you are able to work additional hours in the fall.
